Tynesoft
≠Unit 3 Addison Industrial Estate, Blaydon, Tyne & Wear, NE21
Tynesoft is my story of failure, hope, failure, more hope, more failure, a bit more hope, and a disappointing final near miss. The company was always on my would-be-nice-to-do list but I just couldn't justify a trip to Newcastle upon Tyne. The city is just too far out of my normal orbit to be practical. So I set the company aside, which was a shame because it's definitely one I wanted to cover. (Failure).Sunday, June 8, 2025
The Hunt For Artic House
Artic House, Main Street, Brandesburton, Driffield, YO25
Right from the start, Artic was a company forever being put on and then taken off my
to-do
list. The problem was simple. Artic only had two addresses; one was a house and the other couldn't be located in the real world. This is suboptimal for a blog dedicated to tracking down and photographing the offices of old software houses. I kept a draft page on standby in case I turned up
anything relevant. It sat in the background of this blog for a couple of years until one Sunday around the middle of 2024 I was in a
ruthless mood and culled it and a load of others on the grounds they
would never be used. So long, The Sales Curve. See you
in hell, Aardvark Software. No room for you, The Electronic Pencil
Company. Goodbye, Artic. And that
was it. Deleted. Done. Dusted. I'd never follow Artic up now. Then I
got an email. Most of what follows is Neil's fault.

Activision / Mediagenic / Activision Blizzard
15 Harley House, Marylebone Road, London, NW1
Good grief. No other company has sent me trekking so far around and about London and the outer reaches of the M25. I've occasionally thought I could organise these articles into nice walks. I could do you a trip around Liverpool, or Manchester, or along the line of Domark's southwest London offices. I couldn't do that for Activision. Just the addresses inside the M25 produce a walk 22 miles long. I didn't know true existential despair until I'd compiled all 13* addresses Activision UK used -and continue to use- in their long history. Even now I'm worried I've missed one**. If Microsoft's proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes through that could mean another move for the company. Oh god, no. No updates. No updates.
*Wrong. It's actually 16.
** I did.
